Autumn Fixtures

It is that time again with the Autumn Orienteering calendar about to kick off. The club has organised two training events (Somerset and Portstewart) to help brush off the summer cobwebs.  The first of these on the 2nd September just a week before the Northern Ireland Championships in Florencecourt hosted by FERMO (have you got your entry in yet)?

The training activities will be social, relaxed and open to members and non-members alike – but if you are planning to come please give David a call (see events pages for details).

October then sees NWOC swing into hosting mode to run NI Colour Series 4 in Binevenagh with a great new parking and event base at Duncrun Fishing Lakes.

See you in the Forest (or at the seaside)!

Alternative Errigal Climb

He who fights and runs away…

The summit party with the other peak lurking cloud-bound behind!

The club Errigal (805m) Climb planned for the 29th July ended up climbing a rocky knoll (26m) in the beautiful sand dunes beyond Bunbeg.

You may remember that this was the weekend that a large number of cadets had to be rescued from the Mourne Mountains! With driving rain, low cloud and winds forecast to be gusting in excess of 50mph on the narrow Errigal submit ridge, a strategic retreat to the seaside was agreed on. A 6km ramble with a scenic wreck, undulating dunes (we should map this) and a golf course circumnavigation followed and a very pleasant time was had by all.

However that Mountain is still there – we may return!
